Sid Wyman

Sidney "Sid" Wyman (born June 1, 1910 in St. Louis , Missouri , † June 26, 1978 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American gambler and poker player and hotel owner in Las Vegas .

Career

Wyman had since the early 1950s, along with other owners, several casinos in Las Vegas , including the Sands , the Riviera , the Royal Nevada and the former Dunes . Wyman was a talented poker player who was considered the best player in the world at the time. His favorite game were cash games in the variant Texas Hold'em , which is widespread today. In 1979 he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame as one of the founding members .

During his funeral, all games of chance at the Dunes were suspended for two minutes in his honor.
