action

Seal Anderson is a gamer through and through. In the poker game Texas Hold'em , nobody is quick to fool him. His ten-year-old daughter Alicia, whom he only calls Ace, is eager to learn how to play poker from her father. His godly wife Alice, on the other hand, doesn't think much of his way of making money and one day throws him out. Some time later, Alice and Ace receive the terrible news that Seal was fatally injured in a car accident.

15 years later, Ace has received a scholarship from a foundation to study medicine and leaves her mother, who is not enthusiastic about it. On campus she meets the strict and arbitrary Dr. Pennington, who will be responsible for you and your fellow students in the future . She quickly comes into contact with Barrett, Jasmine, Katie, Pete and Jake, with whom she spends a lot of time. One day they decide to use poker to finance their studies. Since everyone has a special skill, the chances of success are very good. Ace is chosen as the player, while the others study, for example, the body language of the opponents or their betting behavior.

The first smaller attempt is extremely successful, so they decide to take part in the qualifying tournament for a five million dollar all-in tournament. Meanwhile, Ace uncovered a hospital scandal in which Dr. Pennington is involved. Doctors demand horrific sums of money from illegal immigrants who urgently need an operation, otherwise treatment will be refused.

In the qualifying tournament, which is about participation worth $ 10,000 for the main tournament, she sits at the table with Caps, an old poker friend of her father, and loses to him. However, since Caps is already sure of participation, he gives her the one he just won. At the main tournament she suddenly discovers her father at her table. Completely confused, she storms outside. But she returns full of anger. After an initial streak of bad luck and a risky game, she can turn the tide and, like her father and Caps, qualifies for the final table. During the break, Seal explains to her that the death due to high debts was only fictitious to get the life insurance sum. He's been secretly making sure she is fine all these years. Her father is also behind her scholarship. Before they return to the table, Seal warns them about a player named Doctor who is unrecognizable.

At the table, Ace is surprised to find that this is Dr. Pennington acts. After only her father, Dr. Pennington and herself sitting at the table, Ace also takes the doctor off the table. He was arrested as soon as he left the building. In heads-up , Ace plays her father against the wall, who apparently wants her to win too. Despite holding a straight flush , the second best possible poker hand, he throws away. Thus, Ace and her friends win the five million dollars. Seal and Ace make up outside of the casino. In addition, it turns out that Caps and Seal have bet on Ace's tournament victory and have now also won a very large amount.

criticism

"Carelessly staged crime film with an overwhelmed leading actress, excessive subplots and unbelievable poker games."
