Louis Cameron Gossett, Jr. (born May 27, 1936 in Brooklyn ) is an American actor .

Life

Gossett is the son of Louis Cameron Gossett senior and his wife Helen Rebecca Wray. He is best known as an actor in military and action films. For his role as Sergeant Emil Foley in Taylor Hackford's An Officer and a Gentleman , he received in 1983 the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

In 1985 Gossett Jr. played the Drac Jeriba "Jerry" Shigan in the science fiction film Enemy Mine .

Louis Gossett Jr. has made numerous appearances on a variety of TV series, including Bonanza , Detective Rockford , Alone Against the Future , Dead Zone and A Touch of Heaven . From 2005 to 2006 he was in the SF series Stargate - Kommando SG-1 as Jaffa Gerak. In the original version of Half-Life 2 and its sequels, Gossett Jr. took over the voice of Vortigaunt. Gossett is the cousin of Robert Gossett , known in Germany from the crime series The Closer . He was married a total of three times. He has adopted a son with his third ex-wife, Cyndi James Gossett, who also works as an actress. A biological son comes from his second marriage.
