Viña Concha y Toro is a large winery in Chile . It is the largest of the country's wineries in terms of wine-growing region and market share and has had a significant impact on viticulture in Chile . The company is located in Pirque ( Cordillera Province ) south of Santiago de Chile . Concha y Toro produces and sells high-priced wines for the global market; the estate is currently exporting to 135 countries. The public company owns 4,500 hectares of vineyards in Maipo , Maule , Rapel , Colchagua , Curicó and Casablanca . Other growing areas are in Argentina . (→ Viticulture in Argentina )

history

Concha y Toro was founded in 1883 by Melchor Santiago de Concha y Cerda and his wife Emiliana Subercaseaux. First Bordeaux wines were produced (Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot and Carménère). In 1923, after more wines were added and the business flourished, it was converted to a public company. From March 1934 the first wines were exported to Europe. After further growth, including high-volume exports, the winery was listed on the New York Stock Exchange from 1994 . Concha y Toro has been a sponsor of Manchester United since the 2010/11 season of the Premier League .
