Horst Kube

Horst Kube (born September 19, 1920 in Berlin , † October 18, 1976 in East Berlin ) was a German actor who, in addition to his theater work, mainly worked for DEFA and television in the GDR .

Life

Kube initially aimed for a career as a shipbuilding engineer and served in the Navy during World War II . After the war ended, he turned to acting. He initially worked as a small actor on theater stages and cabaret, took acting lessons with Harry Berber before joining the Berliner Ensemble in 1953 , to which he was a member for several years, through performances at the fairy tale theater in Berlin and engagements in Potsdam and Frankfurt (Oder) .

Kube had been a member of the DEFA drama ensemble since the mid-1950s and initially played in small supporting roles in films, before film director Kurt Maetzig , who previously shot castles and cottages with him , played the role of the people's police officer Hannes Wunderlich in Forget Me Not My Traudel ( 1956). His portrayal of the People's Policeman who commits a criminal act out of love gave him his breakthrough as an actor. Other notable films such as The Song of the Sailors , No Trouble with Cleopatra and The Moor Dog followed.

In addition to his feature film work, Kube has also made guest appearances at the Friedrichstadtpalast and has appeared in satirical short films in the Stacheltier series and in television productions by the DFF . Horst Kube was married and had two daughters.
