The young worker Rudek lives with the other Germans in a camp in the forest. There is a hidden village nearby, where he meets the Polish-Jewish girl Martyna. The two begin a relationship, but in order not to endanger their lives, they have to keep this a secret from both the Germans and the villagers.
Especially when old Frau Babka, with whom Martyna lives, is hanged by the gendarmes, Rudek begins to doubt German ideals more and more. More atrocities followed by the Germans, which led Rudek to switch sides. Together with Martyna, Rudek helps the partisans to blow up the railway systems.
