Remarkable

In 1963 , Gorges knocked out several teeth from a guest in a pub dispute in East Berlin . The “thug” was lucky: his victim was by chance the American Army Captain Alfred Svenson , who was discovered as a spy and arrested by the People's Police . Instead of a possible punishment for bodily harm , Gorges received the Dr. Richard Sorge Medal , a high honor, from the Ministry of State Security . So it was only logical that from 1969 he played the role of MfS lieutenant Faber in the GDR spy series Rendezvous with Unknown . After the fall of the Wall , however, it became clear from the Stasi files concerning Gorges that he and his wife were extensively monitored in the GDR, especially after Gorges had received negative attention from the GDR authorities , for example through a critical letter to the State Council .

Manfred Gebhardt wrote about Ingolf Gorges in his book Die Nackte unterm Ladentisch that Gorges was one of those GDR celebrities whom women were most likely to have published a nude picture of. Manfred Gebhardt was editor-in-chief of Das Magazin from 1979 to 1991 .
