biography

Career

Chaves helped write the critically acclaimed stage drama Tracer . In the early eighties he started working as an actor. He initially took on various roles in soap operas , until he got a notable role as Poncho Ramirez in the science fiction film Predator in 1987 . Soon after, his career took another boost when he played the role of Lt. Colonel Ironhorse in the television series War of the Worlds . Apart from the fact that this allowed him to come into contact with both his American roots and a war story, the series also earned him a large fan base. Chaves once noted that the amount of fan mail he received was four to five times that of the other cast members.

His career was slowed down by the fact that War of the Worlds was put under new management for the second season. The new executives did not believe that the Ironhorse character harmonized with the format, so his character and that of Norton Drake were removed.
