Dr. Richard Sorge Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dr. Richard Sorge Medal was the highest award of the Ministry for State Security in the German Democratic Republic . The non-wearable medal was awarded exclusively by the Minister for State Security.

The round medal made of 900 gold with a diameter of 32 mm shows the left-facing portrait of Richard Sorge on its obverse as well as the legend DR.RICHARD SORGE 1895 - 1944 beginning on the left . The lapel shows the three-line inscription HEISSES HERZ / KÜHLER KOPF / SAUBERE HÄNDE and the inscription MINISTRY FOR STATE SECURITY in the center . Since this award was not wearable, the medal was kept in a transparent plastic case, which in turn was closed by a thread and a plastic seal. The inscription of the manufacturer VEB Münze der DDR and the state coat of arms of the GDR can be found on the plastic seal . The plastic case could be stowed away in a brown leather case provided for it before breaking, etc.

The same medal was embossed in stainless steel in a white plastic case together with medals of the same size and artistically similar to Harro Schulze-Boysen 1909-1942 and Rudolf Iwanowitsch Abel 1903-1971. The medal with the portrait of Richard Sorge is on the far right.
