action

After a year, Thomas from the Oderbruch comes to visit his hometown higher up. He wants to speak to his father, but he's on the way. Thomas drives back to his wife unsuccessful. The marriage is going badly. Two years ago Thomas was full of enthusiasm. At the side of his father, he drove the farmers into the LPG . The forced collectivization managed mainly resentment and denial. Father Rothardt is considered a decision-maker and is as respected and feared because of his hardship. He is chairman of the LPG, which has become one of the district's flagship cooperatives over the past two years. Son Thomas was often against his father in decisions, who made it clear to him that he would not succeed him in the LPG even after his death. In agreement with the first secretary of the district management, Thomas became deputy chairman of the neighboring LPG in Oderbruch. The resistance among the forced collectivized farmers is particularly high here. If necessary, they fake illnesses so that they don't have to work with others in the fields. The cattle are not cared for, the yields decline and Thomas cannot assert himself. If the unwilling farmers feared him as Rothardt's son at the beginning and expected the LPG enthusiasts, after two years the fronts are clear: the unwilling get away with their actions, while the willing are disillusioned and lose respect for Thomas. He, in turn, is too proud to ask his father for advice and help.

One day it’s enough for Thomas’s wife Anne. The teacher had never wanted to go to the village and was desperate that Thomas' situation is hopeless, but he cannot give up. She wants to leave him, but only goes to old Rothardt and tells him how the situation is in the LPG. The district secretary had also visited him and made it clear to him that Thomas was not sent away to do the job in the LPG alone. Of course he should find support in his father. Rothardt has some understanding and goes to see Thomas. Although he tells him about the problems, he sees the cause only in the farmers. He does not recognize his own mistakes. Rothardt speaks to his conscience and promises to help him. Soon after, he returned to the LPG with poultry expert Franka and pork master Kersten. They will stay for a while and share their knowledge and experiences. Rothardt will take action in the near future. Those who do not look after their cattle and therefore earn less income than possible will receive less money in the future and have to retroactively settle the damage caused to the LPG. Those who, out of laziness, allow others to do the work that they do not do themselves have to reward them. A rethink is slowly starting, especially since LPG chairman Braune has been informed of his offenses, but has not been removed. In the end it turns out that Anne and Thomas' marriage also has a chance again.
