action

The festival commission of VEB Komet tape recorders decided one Monday to hold the annual company party on the following Saturday with a steamboat trip on the Spree and a subsequent visit to a restaurant. The distribution of the tasks is done quickly, now the only question left is whether the event should take place with or without family members. Except for the operator Eva Schall, everyone is in favor of leaving the relatives at home. Willi Redlich actually wants to take his wife with him, but joins the majority and is commissioned to book the restaurant. The music and the steamer are organized by the chairman of the festival commission himself. At the end of the session still Gisela Wendt, one joins a technical designer who after work one engineering studies completed to Eva and the engineering Hobrecht because they have a common home. On the bus, Gisela loses her drawing material , which the conductor gives to the engineer, as Gisela has already got out. Eva and Hobrecht drive on because he lives with her and her husband Jochen as a lodger . At the end of the evening, all members of the festival committee informed their relatives about the decision, only Willi Redlich does not dare because his wife Susanna is looking forward to the festival so much.

The next morning in the company, Gisela looks for her drawing material, but her mentor Hobrecht does not reveal that he has it. On the contrary, he gives her another task that she cannot do without the tools, since he sees it as an opportunity to get a little closer to her while using his drawing materials together. In a special meeting of the festival committee, at Willis's request, a vote is taken again on whether the family members should participate, but the result changes only slightly. Susanna Redlich wants to surprise her husband and secretly rents the HO-Restaurant "Waldschlösschen" for the celebration, as she is well known to the landlord. When Willi wanted to book this particular restaurant, he received the answer that a business had already signed a contract. Now he has no choice but to switch to the “Sonnenburg” restaurant on the other side of the river.

Susanna has her daughter Helga's hair beautified for the celebration and learns that her husband has so far kept the truth from being. Now the plan is ripening in her to hold an extra party for everyone who has been invited, because the restaurant is already booked. The next day, the employees in question are visited and everyone is enthusiastic about the idea. Eva's husband, Jochen Schall, also hears about this party at the hairdresser's, as, in addition to the men's department, the hairdresser Helga gives Günther Hillig's wife's hair a new shape and they both talk about it. Jochen immediately declares that he is ready to take part in the organization, as he can certainly make himself useful as a graphic designer . Since there is only one tape recorder available in the “Waldschlösschen”, he also gets some tapes with dance music from Gisela, who, like his wife, knows something about the second party.

On Saturday the employees meet on a beautiful steamer until they find out that it is not their ship. You have to change to the almost scrap-worthy boat "Sturmadler", because the chairman of the festival commission had only looked at the money and got the cheap ship for it. The chairmen did not choose the music that well either, because it consists of a 24-piece wind orchestra . After dropping off, the family members come out of their hiding places and take a seat on the beautiful steamer "Wasserfee". Since they are faster than the "storm eagle" they hide below deck when overtaking so that they cannot be seen. So you are the first in your restaurant and the question about music is answered very quickly. Jochen Schall has drawn musicians out of life-size cardboard figures who move on stage to the rhythm of the tape music, which puts everyone in a good mood.

In the meantime, the “storm eagle” has also arrived at the “Sonnenburg” opposite, which turns out to be a real shack. Especially since the chairs were just repainted three hours ago. Nevertheless, a good mood developed. Suddenly a voice comes out of a loudspeaker and announced that the original voices of the employees' partners will be heard. Susanna Redlich is the first to speak to her husband Willi, who immediately investigates where the loudspeaker is leading. While Helga Redlich is still talking to her fiancé, Willi discovers his wife on the other side of the water and jumps into a boat, the bottom of which is broken by the load. Now he has no choice but to swim over. All other colleagues are driven to the other bank with the "storm eagle". There is a happy reunion of the related couples and another nice celebration. The engineer Karl and the student Gisela finally get together.

criticism

In the Neue Zeit , Gerhard Rostin remarked :

“Director Kurt Jung-Alsen, who found a grateful first film assignment with this worthwhile subject, had a downright thieving pleasure in reaching into the large candy bag of the cinematic possibilities, although he also fished out candy that the audience liked too much therefore had to piss off the critic "

In New Germany , Mü wrote:

“With the younger members of the ensemble, the director obviously missed a lot. Some things remain too colorless and stiff. On the whole, however, a carefree comedy film filled with life. "

The lexicon of international film says:

"A conventional, but definitely briskly staged comedy, which, above all due to the mood of the actors, entertains undemanding and sympathetic and with a lot of situational comedy."
