Max Knaake
Max Knaake (born September 6, 1884 in Berlin ; † September 18, 1968 there ) was a German film architect .
Life
Knaake received his training at a building trade school. After completing practical training as a draftsman, the Berliner continued his education at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin . In 1912 he first came into contact with the film industry at French Gaumont . In 1919 Max Knaake continued his work as a set designer at the production company Oskar Messters . At first he was used for the painting work in the production of backdrops .
In 1925, Knaake began designing film structures without being tied to a single production company. Hardly any of these films was artistically superior. In the spring of 1929 he staged for the German branch of Universal Pictures with Through the Brandenburg Gate his only film. Towards the end of the Second World War, Knaake designed films produced in Prague and Vienna . After the war it was only rarely used and then used by DEFA . In 1959 he worked as a production designer for the documentary film department of DEFA.
