San Carlos Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County in the US state of Florida with 16,824 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

San Carlos Park is affected by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ) and is located around 10 km south of Fort Myers . Tampa and Miami are each approximately 130 miles away.

history

In 1904 the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad built a railway line from Punta Gorda to Fort Myers, which was extended in 1925 via San Carlos Park to Bonita Springs and in 1926 to Naples . Today the route from Arcadia via Punta Gorda and Fort Myers to Naples is operated by the Seminole Gulf Railway .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 16,824 inhabitants were distributed over 7177 households. The population density was 1335.2 inh / km². 86.4% of the population identified themselves as white, 2.9% as African American , 0.4% as Native American and 1.4% as Asian Americans . 7.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.8% to several ethnic groups. 24.0% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 17.9% of all households lived in 37.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 69.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.75 people and the average family size was 3.15 people.

27.9% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 29.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 51.7% of the population were male and 48.3% were female.

The median annual income was $ 50,759, with 11.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 90.35% of the population, 8.15% spoke Spanish and 1.50% had another mother tongue.
