The urban area is located on Estero Island and borders directly on Bonita Springs . Miami is 200 km and Tampa 230 km away.

Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 6,277 inhabitants were spread over 9,420 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 848.2 inh / km². 97.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.3% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 0.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.7% to several ethnic groups. 2.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 54.5% of all households lived in 6.4% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 56.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.81 people and the average family size was 2.23 people.
6.1% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 9.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 57.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 63 years. 49.5% of the population were male and 50.5% were female.
The median annual income was $ 55,213, with 9.2% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.33% of the population, 3.54% spoke Spanish and 2.13% had another mother tongue.
