St. James City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County in the US state of Florida with 3784 inhabitants (as of 2010).

St. James City is located in the south of Pine Island . The island is connected to Cape Coral by a bridge . The CDP is located approximately 27 km west of Fort Myers , 210 km from Tampa and 260 km from Miami .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 3784 inhabitants were distributed over 3262 households. The population density was 100.1 inh / km². 98.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.3% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 0.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.7% to several ethnic groups. 2.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 59.4% of all households lived in 6.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.85 people and the average family size was 2.25 people.

6.5% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 6.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 70.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 64 years. 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 46,994, with 8.7% of the population living below the poverty line.
