Bokeelia is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County in the US state of Florida with 1780 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Bokeelia is located in the north of Pine Island . The island is connected to Cape Coral by a bridge . The CDP is located 20 miles west of Fort Myers , 130 miles from Tampa and 260 km from Miami .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1780 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 1385 households. The population density was 77.7 inh / km². 91.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.4% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 6.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 19.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 17.4% of all households and persons aged at least 65 years in 44.5% of all households. 64.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.65.

16.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 16.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 40.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 55 years. 51.2% of the population were male and 48.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 49,704, with 7.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 86.21% of the population and 13.79% spoke Spanish .
