Captiva is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County in the US state of Florida with 583 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Captiva is located on Captiva Island on the Gulf of Mexico . The island is connected to Sanibel Island by a bridge , which in turn is connected to the mainland near Cape Coral by a bridge . Captiva is located approximately 40 km west of Fort Myers . Tampa is 260 km and Miami 270 km away.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 583 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 1,446 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 182.2 inh / km². 78.0% of the population identified themselves as white , 20.1% as African American and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 0.9% said they belonged to several ethnic groups. 3.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 4.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 45.1% of all households. 46.8% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.63 people and the average family size was 2.21 people.

4.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 45.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 58 years. 48.0% of the population were male and 52.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 79,219, with 6.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.
