Pine Island Center is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County in the US state of Florida with 1,854 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Pine Island Center is located in the north of Pine Island . The island is connected to Cape Coral by a bridge . The CDP is located approximately 27 km west of Fort Myers , 210 km from Tampa and 260 km from Miami .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 1854 inhabitants were distributed over 1137 households. The population density was 167 inh. / Km². 95.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.3% as African-Americans , 0.8% as Indians and 0.9% as Asian Americans . 1.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.4% to several ethnic groups. 5.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 18.6% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 40.1% of all households. 61.0% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.16 people and the average family size was 2.63 people.

17.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 10.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 37.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 54 years. 50.3% of the population were male and 49.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 35,817, with 14.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 96.92% of the population and 3.08% spoke Spanish .
