Fort Myers Shores is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County in the US state of Florida with 5487 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Fort Myers Shores is located on the Caloosahatchee River and is affected by Florida State Roads 31 and 80 . The CDP is located around 9 km northeast of Fort Myers . Tampa is approximately 200 km and Miami 230 km away.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5487 inhabitants were distributed over 2588 households. The population density was 979.8 inh / km². 84.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 4.7% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 7.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 28.0% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 33.2% of all households lived in 30.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 66.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.53 people and the average family size was 3.03 people.

25.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 22.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 30.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 49.5% of the population were male and 50.5% were female.

The median annual income was $ 34,653, with 22.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 86.03% of the population and 13.97% spoke Spanish .
