Etienne Jornod
Etienne Jean Jornod (born January 6, 1953 in Neuchâtel ; resident in Val-de-Travers ) is a Swiss entrepreneur and manager . He is executive chairman of the Board of Pharmacy - and Logistics business group Vifor Pharma (formerly Galenica group) and the NZZ Media Group ; he is Honorary President of Galenica.
Life
Etienne Jornod grew up as the oldest of six children in a family of doctors in Neuchâtel and completed an apprenticeship as a druggist in Biel . He studied business administration at the HEC Lausanne and graduated with a licentiate (lic. Oec.). He continued his education (Senior Executive Program) at Stanford University in the United States .
In 1975 he joined Galenica as Junior Product Manager, and in 1978 he left the company to study business administration. He then returned to the company in 1981 as an assistant to the general management. He has been a member of the Executive Board since 1989, and from 1996 to 2011 he headed Galencia in a double mandate as President and Delegate of the Board of Directors. Since 2012 he has been Executive Chairman of the Galenica Group, since 2017, following the sale of the Galenica Santé business unit, Executive Chairman of the other divisions of the original Galenica, renamed Vifor Pharma Group .
Since April 2013 he has also been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NZZ media group . He succeeded Franz Steinegger , who had left the Board of Directors due to reaching the statutory age limit.
Etienne Jornod holds other board memberships, including being President of Vifor Fresenius Medical Care Renal Pharma AG and a member of the Vaudoise Insurance Group . From 2008 to 2009 he was a member of the Board of Directors at Publigroupe . He was also a board member of Alliance Boots .
Etienne Jornod is married for the second time and has four children, two of them from their first marriage. He lives in Muri near Bern .
