Alliance Boots is a Swiss chemical and health company and one of the most important pharmaceutical wholesalers in Europe with legal headquarters in Bern and operational headquarters in Nottingham . The company is a subsidiary of Walgreens Boots Alliance .

Alliance Boots got its company name through the merger of Boots the Chemists and Alliance UniChem after the merger was completed on July 31, 2006. Previously, the name of the group was Boots Group plc. Strictly speaking, Boots Group plc. currently Alliance UniChem plc. The group markets medical products under the brand name "Boots" and owns Alliance Pharmacy , a chemical company and wholesaler of pharmaceutical products with over 1000 sales outlets. For tax reasons, the company has its legal seat in Switzerland .

It is planned to conduct all of the Group's business under the brand name Boots in the future. Alliance Boots is the largest pharmaceutical company in the UK and also has sales chains, equity holdings and joint ventures in 21 countries. Fiscal 2012/13 profit (after tax): £ 805m . By buying up shares in Andreae-Noris Zahn AG (ANZAG) at the end of 2010, which were previously owned by Celesio, Sanacorp and Phoenix, Alliance Boots became the majority owner of around 82% of the shares in Germany's third largest pharmaceutical wholesaler. In the same year (2010/11) the group expanded into Turkey through a majority stake in Hedef Alliance, the country's largest pharmaceutical wholesaler. Since June 2012 she has owned more than 95% of the ANZAG shares. On December 18, 2012, the last general meeting of ANZAG resolved the squeeze-out procedure for the remaining shareholders. Takeover by KKR and Stefano Pessina

Takeover by Walgreens

In August 2014 it was announced that the US pharmaceutical company Walgreens would take over Alliance Boots completely. In February 2012, Walgreens took over 45 percent of the shares for 6.7 billion US dollars from the previous owners KKR and Stefano Pessina. Walgreens pays $ 5.29 billion for the remaining shares.
