The Tehachapi Pass connects the San Joaquin Valley in northern California with the Mojave Desert in southern California. The pass is located on the northeastern branch of the Tehachapi Mountains , another pass is the Tejon Pass on the southwestern branch.
The mountain pass is currently being accessed from State Road 58, and a Union Pacific freight train runs over the pass, the Tehachapi Loop is located about 29 km west of the joint starting point near the settlement of Tehachapi. In the future, a section of the California High-Speed Rail is to lead over the pass.
The Alta Wind Energy Center , the largest wind farm in the country (as of September 2016), is located in the area.
