John Joon Cynn (born December 24, 1984 ) is a professional American poker player . He won the World Poker Championship in 2018 .

Poker career

Career

Cynn has been participating in prestigious live tournaments since 2010 .

In July 2012 , Cynn was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and came in the money in a tournament of the No Limit Hold'em variant . At the WSOP 2016 he reached the seventh day of the tournament at the main event and was eliminated there in eleventh place after a hand against Gordon Vayo . For this Cynn received a prize of 650,000 US dollars . In late February 2017, he finished tenth at the World Poker Tour Main Event in Los Angeles for more than $ 80,000. At the 2018 WSOP , Cynn had another good run in the main event and made it to the final table with the fourth-largest chip stack , which was played from July 12, 2018. On the night of July 15, 2018, after ten hours of heads-up against Tony Miles , he secured the world title as well as a bracelet and a prize of 8.8 million US dollars. This achievement was named "Tournament Performance of the Year 2018" at the Global Poker Awards in early April 2019 .

Overall, Cynn has earned more than $ 10 million in poker in live tournaments .
