Russ Hamilton (* 1948 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former professional American poker player . He won the World Poker Championship in 1994 .

Life

Hamilton moved from Detroit to Las Vegas in 1984 because of the supposedly better weather . In Detroit he worked as a bookmaker . In Las Vegas he first ran an alarm system business. He was also a successful gambler when betting on basketball results . Later he also devoted himself to the game of poker. Hamilton is a respectable amateur golfer. He mostly played for large sums of money against other wealthy amateurs.

Poker career

Hamilton won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in Las Vegas in May 1994 . For this he received a million US dollars and a bracelet . Since it was the 25th edition of the WSOP, he was allowed to have his weight silvered and received a bonus of 26,000 US dollars. After this success he served the poker portal UltimateBet as a consultant and was involved in the recruitment of prominent poker players, such as B. Phil Hellmuth involved. On September 29, 2008, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission announced that it had found clear and convincing evidence suggesting that between May 2004 and January 2008, Hamilton was both the primary culprit and beneficiary of several serious fraud incidents at UltimateBet .
