Matthew "Matt" Salsberg (* 1971 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian television producer , screenwriter and poker player . He won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour in September 2012 and was named Player of the Year in the tournament series at the end of the season .

Personal

Salsberg grew up in Montreal . Already in his youth he came into contact with gambling in the form of horse racing and played golf . At the urging of his parents, he took a course in script writing and found his calling. Since then he wrote a. a. for the TV series Weeds - Small Deals Among Neighbors , Family Quarrel De Luxe and Kidding .

Poker career

Salsberg has been taking part in renowned live tournaments since 2004 .

Salsberg won his first live prize money until 2011 at smaller events, most of which were played in Los Angeles . In July 2011 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and finished 70th in the main event, worth almost 110,000 US dollars . In mid-September 2012, Salsberg won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Paris . For this he prevailed against 227 other players and secured a prize of 380,000 euros . In addition, he finished sixth in both Atlantic City and Hollywood , Florida , and seventh in Venice during the 2012/13 WPT season . Because of these achievements, he was named Player of the Year in the tournament series at the end of the season . In the WSOP 2014 Salsberg was at a tournament variant No Limit Hold'em third and received nearly 210,000 US dollars. In September 2016 at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, he finished second in a deep stack tournament for just under 150,000 US dollars. In May 2017, he won the main event of the California State Poker Championship in Los Angeles and secured the grand prize of around 175,000 US dollars.

Overall, Salsberg has earned more than $ 2.5 million in poker in live tournaments.
