David Y. "Chino" Rheem (born April 15, 1980 in West Palm Beach , Florida ) is a professional American poker player with Asian roots.
Rheem has earned more than eleven million US dollars with poker in live tournaments . He is three-time champions of the World Poker Tour and won in 2019, the Main Event of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure .
Personal
Rheem graduated from Berkmar High School in Lilburn , Georgia , in 1997 . When he was 18, he moved to Los Angeles . Rheem left California after being sentenced to four months in prison for burglary, theft, and possession of marijuana . Today he lives in Miami .
Poker career
Career
Rheem has been playing poker since 1998 . He started with smaller stakes in the Seminole Casino in Hollywood and has been participating in prestigious live tournaments since 2004 .
In June 2005 Rheem was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and was able to place in the money twice. At the 2006 WSOP, he narrowly missed winning a bracelets and finished with a tournament variant No Limit Hold'em behind Allen Cunningham took second place for a prize of more than 300,000 US dollars . Two years later, he reached the final table of the Main Event , which was played in November 2008. Rheem, who was considered a favorite by many despite arriving as a short stack, finished the tournament in seventh place and received more than $ 1.5 million in prize money.
In mid-December 2008, Rheem won the Five Diamond World Poker Classic on the World Poker Tour (WPT) at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, again collecting over 1.5 million US dollars. In August 2011, he won the Epic Poker League Main Event and secured $ 1 million in prize money. In mid-May 2013 Rheem won his second WPT title and won the WPT World Championship for a prize of more than one million US dollars. In mid-April 2016 he won the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in Hollywood and thus as the fourth player after Gus Hansen , Carlos Mortensen and Anthony Zinno his third title on the World Poker Tour . In January 2019, Rheem prevailed at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event in the Bahamas and received a prize of more than 1.5 million US dollars.
