Andrew "Andy" Elliot Bloch (born June 1, 1969 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is a professional American poker player .

Career

Before he started playing poker, he studied at two of the most prestigious universities. He graduated from Harvard and received a diploma from MIT in Cambridge . He was a member of the famous MIT blackjack team .

Bloch began playing poker seriously in 1992 when he was playing tournaments with small entry fees. He reached a final table at a World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament in Las Vegas in 1996 . After his bar exam in 1999, he turned to professional poker for good. In 2001 he reached two more final tables at WoSOP . He finished third twice in the World Poker Tour (WPT) main event and won a WPT side event. In 2005, he won the Ultimate Poker Challenge after leaving Erik Seidel , Ted Forrest and Scott Fischman behind at the final table . At the 2006 WSOP , Bloch made it to heads-up at the $ 50,000 HORSE tournament . He played against David "Chip" Reese and lost in over seven hours and 286 hands, but won $ 1 million in prize money . In late 2006, Bloch won the Pro-Am Equalizer and $ 500,000 in prize money. Seated at the final table were Allen Cunningham , Phil Ivey , Phil Laak and David Williams . In the 2008 WSOP Bloch had the chance to be first again Bracelet at an event in the Variant Pot-Limit Hold'em . This time, however, he had to admit defeat to Nenad Medić in the heads-up and make do with second place again. So the saying “Best Poker Player without a Bracelet” stuck to him. In early June 2012 Bloch finally won his bracelet and the world title in Seven Card Stud at the WSOP . Bloch was a member of Full Tilt Poker's Team Full Tilt .

In total, Bloch has earned almost 5.5 million US dollars with poker in live tournaments.
