David Anthony Williams (born June 9, 1980 in Arlington , Texas ) is a professional American poker and magic player . In 2006 he won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker and two-time champions of the World Poker Tour .

Personal

Williams was a student at Princeton University and later studied economics at Southern Methodist University .

Magic: The Gathering

His first trip to the Magic Pro Tour he made the end of 1990. Even before he at the World Championship in 2001 Toronto play along, he earned about 30,000 dollars . At this championship, however, Williams was disqualified because of marked cards . He was then suspended from the tour. After his suspension, he still had some success at Magic events, but focused on poker.

Poker career

Williams initially only played for high stakes online . He taught himself the variant of No Limit Hold'em . He was later trained by Marcel Lüske and made friends with Noah Boeken , another of Lüskes' apprentices. Williams stepped into the limelight when he performed at the 2004 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas . He qualified online for the main event , finishing second behind Greg Raymer for $ 3.5 million in prize money. Four months later, Williams finished second at the Borgata Open on the World Poker Tour (WPT) for $ 573,800. In the spring of 2006, he reached two more WPT final tables. Williams won his first bracelet at the 2006 WSOP in Seven Card Stud when he beat John Hoang heads-up . Williams was sponsored by Bodog after the 2004 WSOP and by PokerStars from 2010 , where he also served as Team Pro . In 2010 he won the WPT Championship and won more than $ 1.5 million.

In total, Williams has earned over $ 8.5 million in poker in live tournaments.
