The high jump is a term from equestrian sport.

In show jumping , a high jump is a jump in which the horse has to overcome both a height and a distance. The horse has to jump with significantly more bascule than with a purely vertical steep jump . The classic high jumps in a show jumping course are oxer , double rick , triple bar , Verdener bank (cavaletti or low bar before a steep jump) and hogsback (roof-shaped). In most cases (Oxer, Trippelbarre, Verdener Bank) high jumps can only be made in one direction.
