In show jumping, a steep jump is a high jump, i.e. an obstacle that the horse has to jump upwards. Depending on requirements, one or more bars, planks or gates are hung between the stands and supplemented with support parts. In this case one speaks of a rick . The amount depends on the exam or the competition. Further variants of the steep jump are a suspended, single high gate or an opaque wall consisting of stacked elements. A steep jump can usually be jumped in either direction, unlike many high-distance jumps .
