John Anthony "Miami" Cernuto (born January 10, 1944 in Jersey City , New Jersey ) is a professional American poker player . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .
Personal
Before starting his poker career, Cernuto graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee with a degree in finance . After graduation, he worked as an air traffic controller . When the then US President Ronald Reagan fired the air traffic controllers during a strike in 1981, Cernuto made poker his job.
Poker career
Career
Cernuto achieved in the Poker World Series of 1989 in Las Vegas his first final table in the variant Seven Card Stud . With him sat David Sklansky and Humberto Brenes at the final table and Cernuto took fourth place. After five more places in the prize money, he won his first bracelet in Seven Card Stud in 1996 . He also won an event in No Limit Hold'em in 1997 and one in Limit Omaha in 2002 , which earned him two more bracelets . At the 2006 WSOP , Cernuto reached three final tables. He also reached a final table on the World Poker Tour . In 2005, Cernuto finished fifth in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event in the Bahamas . In March 2020, Cernuto received the Hendon Mob Award at the Global Poker Awards .
In total, Cernuto has earned almost six million US dollars with poker in live tournaments .
