Humberto Brenes (born May 8, 1951 in San José ) is a professional Costa Rican poker player . He is two-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Personal

Brenes studied industrial engineering at the Universidad de Costa Rica . He started his career as a professional player with baccarat .

Poker career

Career

Brenes played his first poker tournament in 1974.

In 1988 Brenes finished fourth in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker . His most successful year was 1993 . He won a Limit Hold'em and a Pot-Limit Omaha tournament at the WSOP, securing two bracelets . At the 2006 WSOP , Brenes and Phil Hellmuth won eight times. In his career Brenes won more than six million dollars in live professional tournaments, making it the most successful Costa Rican poker players .

His indispensable identification mark is his "Shark", which he always puts on stage at the poker table as a lucky charm and card guard . Brenes was a representative of the online poker platform PokerStars .
