Razz (variant of poker)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Razz is a variant of poker . It's seven card stud lowball , which means that the worst hand wins. The ace is the lowest card; Straights and flushes are not counted as such.

One-hand process

A finished Razzhand
  • All players bet the ante .
  • Each player receives two face down (known only to him) and one face up card.
  • The player with the highest open card bets the so-called bring-in. If two players have the same high card, a decision is made according to suit (clubs - "clubs" - is highest, followed in descending order: diamonds, hearts and spades - "diamonds", "hearts" and "spades").
  • This is the start of the first round of betting.
  • Each player receives an open card (fourth street).
  • Next round of betting. The player with the lowest open combination starts.
  • Each player receives an open card (Fifth Street).
  • Third betting round. The player with the lowest open combination starts.
  • Each player receives an open card (Sixth Street).
  • Fourth betting round. The player with the lowest open combination starts.
  • Each player gets a face down card (Seventh Street or River).
  • Fifth and final betting round. The player with the lowest open combination starts.
  • Showdown.

Showdown

The player with the lowest five-card combination wins the pot , straights and flushes are ignored and the ace is the lowest card as mentioned above. The best hand is ace, 2, 3, 4, 5. Since the scoring of the hands is done according to the general poker rules, 8 high is in any case worse (which means in lowball that the hand loses) than 7 high , regardless of whether the other cards are lower. So A, 2, 3, 4, 8 loses against 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
