The Chongjin Airport ( IATA : RGO , ICAO : ZKHM ) is an airport in North Korea . It is located 40 km outside of Ch'ŏngjin City in Ŏrang-gun County, Hamgyŏng-pukto Province . In addition to civil aviation, an air force unit of the Korean People's Army is also stationed here.
history
The airfield was built in 1935 by the Japanese colonial government . During the Korean War he was u. a. used by the USAF as a base K-33 (or later K-34 ).
In the near future it will become the second airport for international traffic after Sunan (Pyongyang) .
Infrastructure
The runway is 2500 m long; in the near future it is to be expanded to 4000 m.
Airlines and Destinations
Currently the airport is only used by Air Koryo . From here it is possible to fly to Haeju , Pyongyang and Wonsan .
