Shanta Ghosh-Broderius (born January 3, 1975 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a former German athlete who was successful as a 400-meter runner from the late 1990s to 2005 .

Life

Her father comes from Calcutta ( India ), from where he emigrated in 1960 to work as an engineer in Germany; her mother comes from Oberhausen .

She became German youth and junior champion over 200 meters . In 1996 Ghosh became German university champion over 60 meters in the hall. The following year she won three medals at the U23 European Championships in Turku , gold with the 4-by-100-meter relay and silver over 200 meters and with the 4-by-400-meter relay . At the World Championships in Athens , she started over 200 meters and was eliminated in the intermediate run. In 1999 she won bronze at the Universiade with the 4 x 100 relay .

In 2000 she took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney , but the German 4 x 400 meter relay did not get beyond the run. In 2001 Ghosh won her only German championship title, over 400 meters indoors. At the following World Indoor Championships in Lisbon , she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay ( Claudia Marx , Birgit Rockmeier , Florence Ekpo-Umoh , Shanta Ghosh) in 3: 31.00 minutes.

Her greatest success is the relay silver medal in the 4 x 400 meter run at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton (3: 21.97 minutes, together with Grit Breuer , Florence Ekpo-Umoh and Claudia Marx). In the same line-up, the season also won the European Cup this year .

Shanta Ghosh belonged to LSG Neunkirchen and LC Rehlingen and trained with Ulrich Knapp . In 2005 she ended her sporting career. She is 1.68 m tall and weighed 53 kg at competition times.

She graduated from high school at Krebsberg in Neunkirchen in 1994, studied psychology at Saarland University in Saarbrücken (focus on organizational, communication and media psychology) and graduated in 2006 with a diploma. In 2008 she founded a company for health coaching with Bianca Kappler .

Shanta Ghosh is a member of the Saarland CDU state board and ran for the Saarland state parliament in 2004 and 2009 . In 2004 she was the election woman for the CDU in the Federal Assembly for the election of Federal President Horst Koehler .
