Oleksiy Lukashevytsch

Oleksiy Ivanovich Lukaschewytsch ( Ukrainian Олексій Іванович Лукашевич , English transcription Oleksiy Lukashevych ; born January 11, 1977 in Dnepropetrovsk ) is a Ukrainian long jumper who was both indoor and outdoor European champion.

At the Junior World Championships in 1996 Lukashevytsch won gold with 7.91 m. The following year he was third at the U23 European Championships with a wind-assisted 8.09 m. At the European Indoor Championships in Valencia in 1998 , he won with 8.06 m and one centimeter ahead of the Portuguese Carlos Calado . In 1999 he won the Universiade with 8.16 m.

With 8.02 m he took fourth place at the European Indoor Championships in Ghent in 2000 . After Lukashevytsch had not survived the qualification at the great championships in the open air, he made it to the finals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . With 8.26 m he came within one centimeter of his personal best, he reached fourth place and was only five centimeters behind his compatriot Roman Shchurenko in third place.

His only world championship final reached Lukashevytsch at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton . With 8.10 m he was sixth, eleven centimeters behind Carlos Calado, who won bronze. In 2002 in Vienna he was in the final of the European Indoor Championships for the third time in a row. With 8.11 m he finished fourth again, the Spaniard Raúl Fernández won gold with 8.22 m. In Munich at the European Championships in 2002 , the athletes suffered from cold, wet weather. Only two jumpers exceeded the 8-meter mark, Lukashevytsch won with 8.08 m, eight centimeters ahead of the Croat Siniša Ergotić .

After that, Lukashevytsch only managed to get into a grand final again at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg . With 8.12 m he was third eight centimeters behind the Italian European champion Andrew Howe .

Oleksiy Lukashevytsch is 1.75 m tall and weighs 72 kg.
