Ödön Földessy [ ˈødøn ˈføldɛʃi ] (born July 1, 1929 in Békés , † June 9, 2020 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian athlete .

At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , American Jerome Biffle won the long jump with 7.57 meters in front of his compatriot Meredith Gourdine with 7.53 meters. As the best European, Ödön Földessy won the bronze medal with 7.30 meters.

In 1953 Földessy jumped the Hungarian national record with 7.76 meters. At the European Championships in 1954 in Bern, Földessy won the qualification with 7.39 meters. In the final he won gold with 7.51 meters ahead of Poland's Zbigniew Iwański with 7.46 meters.

In Melbourne at the Olympic Games 1956 Földessy retired with 6.96 meters as 21st of the qualification. At the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 , he was tenth with 7.20 meters.

Ödön Földessy was Hungarian long jump champion every year from 1950 to 1959 with the exception of 1956. With the 4 x 100 meter relay of Újpest Dózsa Budapest he was Hungarian champion in 1952 and 1954. With a height of 1.85 m, his competition weight was 72 kg.

He was married to the former fencer Paula Marosi , who became an Olympic champion with the foil team in 1964. After his career as an athlete, Földessy graduated from the police academy and worked for the Budapest traffic police . He retired from active service as a colonel and died on June 9, 2020 after a long illness in Budapest.
