Christian Reif (born October 24, 1984 in Speyer ) is a former German long jumper .

Life

Christian Reif lives in Saarbrücken . He belonged to TSV Iggelheim from 1991 to 2001 and then moved to ABC Ludwigshafen . From 2013 to 2014 he started for the LC Rehlingen. He was trained by Ulrich Knapp for the last six years of his career.

In 2004, the personal best of the then 20-year-old was 7.83 m. His first eight-meter jump was on July 21, 2007 at the German Championships in Erfurt. There he jumped 8.08 m, won the title and qualified for the 2007 World Championships in Osaka . There he finished the qualification in fourth place and improved his personal best to 8.19 m. In the final he was ninth with 7.95 m after the third round and so missed the final fight. He achieved a better placement on September 23, 2007 at the IAAF World Athletics Final . For the third time he jumped over the eight-meter mark and finished fourth with 8.01 m.

In the 2008 Olympic year, Reif tore a muscle fiber during training and missed the qualification for the Olympic Games in Beijing. In 2009, he continued his performance from 2007. In Paris in September he managed a set to 8.18 m.

Ripe at the 2010 European Championships

In 2010 he became the German indoor champion with a new personal indoor record of 8.10 m. Two weeks later he finished fifth at the World Indoor Championships in Doha with 7.86 m. At the beginning of the outdoor season he was in good shape when he first increased his best mark to 8.22 m at the Whitsun Sports Festival in Weinheim. A week later in Hengelo he was defeated by Dwight Phillips , but improved in second place with a permissible tailwind from 1.9 m / s to 8.27 m. With a new personal best of 8.47 m, Reif became European champion at the title fights in Barcelona on August 1, 2010 . In the same year he was voted Track and Field Athlete of 2010.

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu , he reached the final battle and took seventh place there. In 2012, because of Achilles tendon complaints, Reif decided not to start at the German and European Championships, but managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in London. There he was thirteenth.

At the 2014 German Championships , Christian Reif showed the best series of his career with six jumps over 8 meters: 8.09 / 8.10 / 8.05 / 8.18 / 8.17 / 8.20 m. He had previously improved his best performance to 8.49 m in Weinheim. As second in the world annual best list, he traveled to the European Championships , where he clearly missed the goal of a medal with 7.95 m.

On October 22, 2014, he surprisingly ended his sports career. The background to this were also cuts in the sponsors' funding, which he had to accept as a result of the disappointing result at the European Championships in Zurich, among other things.

Reif studied at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Karlsruhe (TH). In 2011 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports science / health and fitness management. He then completed a master’s degree in sports management at the University of Bayreuth. After the end of his career, he took a position at Aldi Süd as regional sales manager.

Reif has been a member of the Junge Union (JU) since 2007 . In 2009 he became deputy chairman of the JU Association Böhl-Iggelheim. In the municipal council elections in the same year, Reif ran on the list of the CDU , but missed the entry into the council. In 2011, Reif made himself available as a head of a membership campaign of the CDU federal association.

He supports various social projects and is also an ambassador for the Sterntaler eV children's hospice and the Ludwigshafen association “Strong kids are fair”.
