Petra glasses (born October 5, 1981 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German national basketball player .

Life

The 1.96 meter long centerwoman started her career in Chemnitz in 1993. In 2000 she was third in the 1st women's basketball league with Chemnitz . Also in 2000 she graduated from high school in Chemnitz and moved to the USA, where she studied and played basketball at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. In the very first season she was voted “Rookie of the Year” and the best defensive player in the league. In 2002, glasses moved to California State University in Long Beach. In 2005 she made the leap into the WNBA , the professional league in the USA. She was signed by the Connecticut Suns, but could not play in the team. Also in 2005 she played for Spartak Moscow and in 2006 for the Swedish club Visby Ladies. For the 2007/08 season, glasses moved back to Germany to New Basket '92 Oberhausen .

Glasses was in the youth basketball national teams of the U16 to U20. Her first appearance in the German A national basketball team was only in 2001 in the game against Belgium, although she had already been appointed to the national team in 1999. She was a player in the German national team at the 2007 European Championship in Chieti ( Italy ).

Glasses was called back to the national team in 2008, but had to cancel the preparatory course for European championship qualification due to persistent back problems. In the additional European Championship qualification in 2009 in January 2009, she played again for the German national team. Glasses played their last international match in June 2011 when they lost 64:76 to Montenegro in Katowice. Glasses completed a total of 118 international A matches in her career.
