Izmir Smajlaj (born March 29, 1993 in Shkodra , Albania ) is an Albanian athlete who specializes in long jump and triple jump .
At the European Indoor Championships 2017 in Belgrade , Smajlaj was European champion in the long jump. With 8.08 m he reached a new national record. The Swede Michel Tornéus jumped the same distance in second, but had one more failed attempt. The Ukrainian Serhij Nykyforow came in third with 8.07 m. It was Albania's first European title in athletics.
Previously, he had only managed to take part in the finals at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam , where he finished ninth, and at the 2015 European Games in Baku . In the latter, he won silver. In other major tournaments he only reached the qualifying rounds.

In June 2014, Izmir Smajlaj broke Admir Bregu's national long jump record from 2008 with 7.78 m. His new national record of 16.30 m in the triple jump improved a 30-year record set by Artan Duka in 1986.
