Michel Tresor Komesha Tornéus (born May 26, 1986 in Botkyrka ) is a former Swedish long jumper .

Athletic career

Tornéus, the son of a Swede and a Congolese, started athletics at the age of six. In 2005 he was the first Swedish champion in the long jump. By 2013 he had won a total of twelve national long jump titles, five of them indoors and one in the triple jump . He also holds the national records in the long jump outdoors (8.22 m) and in the hall (8.30 m).

Tornéus' most important international successes include winning the bronze medal at the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki and fourth place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. At the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg in 2013, he secured the silver medal behind Russian Alexander Menkow with a new national record of 8.29 m . In contrast, he retired at the World Championships in Moscow in the same year after qualifying.

At the 2014 Indoor World Championships in Sopot, Poland, Tornéus finished third with 8.21 m behind defending champion Mauro Vinícius da Silva from Brazil and the Chinese Li Jinzhe . In the same year he finished fifth at the European Championships in Zurich with 8.09 m. The European Indoor Championships in 2015 in Prague, he won m with a width of 8.30. At the World Championships in Beijing in the same year, however, he was eliminated from the qualification without a valid attempt.

At the European Championships 2016 in Amsterdam, Tornéus won the silver medal behind defending champion and Olympic champion Greg Rutherford with a width of 8.21 m . On the other hand, at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he did not get more than 7.65 m in qualifying and thus clearly missed the final.

At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017 , Tornéus won the silver medal with a width of 8.08 m. In the same year he finished eighth at the World Championships in London with 8.18 m. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 , he was seventh with 7.86 m.

Tornéus ended his active sporting career in September 2019 with a fourth place in the Swedish championships.
