Daniil Sergejewitsch Burkenja

Daniil Sergejewitsch Burkenja ( Russian Даниил Сергеевич Буркеня , English transcription Danil Burkenya ; born July 20, 1978 in Ashgabat , today Turkmenistan ) is a Russian three-jumper who was initially active as a long jumper .

His greatest success in the long jump, in which he set his personal record in 2001 with 8.31 meters, was a fifth place at the 2002 European Athletics Championships in Munich. However, when he failed in qualifying at the World Athletics Championships in 2003 as well as at the 2001 World Cup , he finally limited himself to the triple jump.

The following season he set his record on July 31 in Tula with 17.68 meters. Shortly afterwards he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Athens with 17.48 m behind Christian Olsson (SWE) and Marian Oprea (ROM).

At the European Championships in 2006 he finished sixth, but he failed both at the 2005 World Cup in Helsinki and at the 2007 World Cup in Osaka in the qualification.
