Toshinari Takaoka

Toshinari Takaoka ( Japanese 高 岡 寿 成 Takaoka Toshinari ; born September 24, 1970 in Yamashiro, now Kizugawa ) is a Japanese long-distance runner who has specialized in the marathon in recent years . He is ranked 3rd in the all-time best list of Japanese marathon runners .

Life

His first successes were on the track. In 1994 he won gold in the 5000 and 10,000 meter races at the Asian Games , and in the following years he set the national records of 3000 m (7: 41.87), 5000 m (13: 13.40) and 10,000 m (27: 35.09). At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he was fifteenth over 5000 m and seventh over 10,000 m.

In 2001 he finished third in the Fukuoka Marathon on his debut over this distance . He took the same place a year later at the Chicago Marathon and set the Asian record at 2:06:16, which was only beaten by five seconds in 2018 by his compatriot Yūta Shitara . He also took third place in the Fukuoka Marathon in 2003 and in the Chicago Marathon in 2004.

With a victory at the Tokyo International Men's Marathon , he qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , where he finished fourth.

At the Tokyo International Men's Marathon in 2006, he finished second.

Toshinari Takaoka has a competition weight of 64 kg with a height of 1.86 m.
