Dan Browne (actually Daniel Browne; born June 24, 1975 in Portland , Oregon ) is a former American long-distance runner .

At the 1997 Universiade he won silver over 10,000 m and bronze over 5000 m . In 1998 he finished 21st on the short distance at the World Cross Country Championships in Marrakech and was sixth over 3000 m and 5000 m at the World Athletics Cup in Johannesburg . In 1999 a 76th place on the short distance at the Cross Country World Championships in Belfast was followed by a fifth place over 5000 m at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg . At the World Athletics Championships in Seville , he was eliminated over 5000 m in the preliminary run. In 2000 he won the Jacksonville River Run .

In 2001 he finished 85th on the short distance at the Cross Country World Championships in Ostend , won the Parkersburg Half Marathon and the New Haven Road Race , finished 68th at the Half Marathon World Championships in Bristol and came third in the Senior Bowl Charity Run .

In 2002, he defended his title in the New Haven Road Race and was the overall winner of the Twin Cities Marathon on his debut in the 42.195 km distance .

In 2003, a 37th place on the short distance at the Cross Country World Championships in Avenches was followed by a victory at the River Bank Run . He won bronze over 10,000 m at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and came 19th at the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis .

The following year he was the half-marathon competition of the Houston Marathon second place and qualified as a third of the US elimination race for the Marathon of the Olympic Games in Athens . There he finished 65th after he had previously finished twelfth in the 10,000 m.

In 2007 he again won the New Haven Road Race and finished sixth in the US elimination race for the 2008 Olympic Games marathon.

In 2008 he finished second and in 2009 fourth in the Jacksonville River Run. After finishing second at the River Bank Run, he finished 24th in the 2009 World Cup marathon in Berlin.

In the US elimination race for the 2012 Olympic marathon, he came in 85th place.
