Simone Mathes

Simone Mathes (born March 13, 1975 in Stadtsteinach ) is a German hammer thrower .

She started throwing discus in her youth , but switched to hammer throwing because of her small size. In total, she set five national records from 1994 on, most recently on May 15, 1999 in Halle (Saale) with 67.13 m. She was also German champion five times (1993, 1994, 1997–1999).

In 1997 she won silver at the U23 European Championships. At the European Championships in 1998 she was fourth and at the 1999 World Athletics Championships seventh.

On May 31, 2004, she achieved her personal best in Fränkisch-Crumbach with 67.97 m. She had thus fulfilled the Olympic A standard, but was pushed to fourth place in the very last attempt at the German Championships by Susanne Keil and therefore missed participation in the Olympic Games in Athens .

Simone Mathes is 1.71 m tall and weighs 77 kg. She is a main sergeant in the personnel department of the German Armed Forces in Cologne-Longerich and is currently starting for the LAZ Troisdorf / Siegburg . a. was active for UAC Kulmbach and TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen .
