Mihaela Melinte (born March 27, 1975 in Bacau ) is a Romanian hammer thrower . Her greatest success is the world championship title at the 1999 World Championships in Seville .

Melintes international career began in 1997 when she finished second at the Eurocup, in the same year she took first place at the U23 European Championships and Universiade . The following year she was also a senior European champion in Budapest . 1999 was her successful year so far, she became world champion in Seville , and Melinte also improved the hammer throw world record three times, she had already surpassed the record twice in previous years. Its width of 76.07 m, set up in Rüdlingen , was only surpassed in 2005 and at the same time represents her personal best.

Shortly before the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , nandrolone was found in one of her doping samples , after which she was suspended from the Games. Since she had not been informed by the Romanian Association, Melinte nevertheless appeared in the Olympic Stadium and was expelled from it. The doping discovery resulted in a two-year ban.

In 2003 Mihaela Melinte had her comeback, but did not get into the medal ranks either at the World Championships in Paris or two years later at the World Championships in Helsinki . She was refused entry at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens by the Romanian federation, as this athlete convicted of doping did not nominate for the Olympic Games even after the ban had expired.
