Maurizio Checcucci (born February 26, 1974 in Florence ) is a former Italian sprinter .

Life

Checcucci won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run at the European Junior Athletics Championships in 1993 in San Sebastián and was Italian champion over the same distance in 1999. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he finished seventh with the Italian 4 x 100 meter relay .

At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, the Italian team was eliminated in the preliminary round. Shortly afterwards, however, Checcucci won the relay title and the silver medal in the 100-meter run at the Mediterranean Games in Tunis . At the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 , he reached the quarter-finals over 100 meters. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 he could not qualify for the final with the Italian relay, and at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 2006 he was eliminated in the 100-meter run in the preliminary round.

With the season, Checcucci also missed the finals at the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Osaka, but was able to secure another title at the Mediterranean Games in the 2009 Pescara . He celebrated his most significant success up to then at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona in 2010 by winning the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay behind the French and ahead of the German team. The Italian relay with the line-up of Roberto Donati , Simone Collio , Emanuele Di Gregorio and Maurizio Checcucci set a national record with a time of 38.17 seconds.

Maurizio Checcucci is 1.80 m tall and has a competition weight of 77 kg. He belongs to the sports group of the Polizia di Stato in Padua.
