The men's 4 by 100 meter relay at the 1983 World Athletics Championships took place on August 9 and 10, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland .
23 relays took part in the competition. There were no line-up changes from the prelims to the final.
The gold medal won by the United States in the occupation Emmit King , Willie Gault , Calvin Smith and Carl Lewis . They set a new world record in the final with 37.86 s.
Silver went to Italy in 38.37 s with Stefano Tilli , Carlo Simionato , Pierfrancesco Pavoni and Pietro Mennea .
The bronze medal was secured by the Soviet Union ( Andrei Prokofjew , Nikolai Sidorow , Vladimir Muravyov , Viktor Bryshin ) in 38.41 seconds.
