Ernest Obeng

Ernest Obeng ( Ernest Ahwireng Obeng; born April 8, 1956 ) is a former British sprinter of Ghanaian origin.

At the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in 1978 , he was eighth over 100 m and with the Ghanaian team fifth in the 4-by-100-meter relay . Over 200 m he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

In 1979 he won the 100 m at the African Athletics Championships in Dakar . At the Athletics World Cup in Montreal , he was fifth in the 100 m and with the African 4-by-100-meter relay.

In 1981 he won bronze over 100 m at the Universiade . At the Athletics World Cup in Rome he was second over 100 m and was part of the African 4 x 100 meter relay, which was disqualified.

The following year he defended his 100 m title at the 1982 African Championships in Cairo. At the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane , he finished sixth in the Ghanaian 4 x 100 meter relay and reached the semi-finals over 100 m and 200 m.

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 , he was eliminated over 100 m in the quarter-finals and with the Ghanaian team in the run-up to the 4-by-100-meter relay.

In 1985 he was English champion over 100 m and in 1984 and 1986 English indoor champion over 60 m .
