1979 African Athletics Championships

The 1st African Athletics Championships were held in 1979 in the Stade Demba Diop in the Senegalese capital Dakar .

Decisions were made in 23 disciplines for men and 16 disciplines for women. 251 athletes from 24 countries took part.
